Week 2 - Clay Characters
Week 2
Clay Character
After creating the paper towns in the last lecture, we were asked to look at our paper town and create a character based off of one of the cities/places. At first I did consider my own city, Monaco, as I have the knowledge behind the ideas. However, after considering this and sketching one character idea, I decided against it. I know I lack the patience and skill to create the detailed character I had come up with in clay, and I wanted to actually try and enjoy and learn from this process. So, I decided to look towards New York instead, and more specifically the Pigeons of New York.
After a few sketches, I gave the clay a go. We used quick air dry clay specifically, so that along with little knowledge on how to properly use clay, I had a rough time. Although after struggling with trying to make it look perfect and sculpted, I decided to waste that idea and just have some fun with it. With that in mind, I'm pretty happy with the outcome. Although not nearly perfect, and quite creepy in most respects, it has a clear form of a bird and thats all I wanted to achieve in this session. I would like to come back to play at some point in the future and truly learn how to use it, so I could develop my skills and potentially use clay in future projects.
