Week 2 - Paper towns

Week 2

Paper Towns

In this task, we were asked to pick two slips of paper from a hat at random, both holding names of places. I got 'Monaco' and 'Jerusalem'. We were then asked to do some research into both places, to find out about their culture, society, religion, landmarks, anything potentially important about the areas, as this information would help inform us when creating our paper town.

We were then asked to create a building based off of one of our places, it being possibly made up of realistic. I had a look through my research and decided on created the St Nicholas Cathedral in Monaco, A beautiful Roman Catholic cathedral made in 1875. It is specifically known for having many royals buried there, and for its beautiful architecture. I decided on this building because of its stand out design, and its sleek feel. I also wanted to truly challenge myself with a potentially difficult building, all the small details needing to be proportionate and realistic.

Overall, I'm really happy with how the paper building came out, being created only out of card and glue. Throughout, I looked at multiple references to try and make it as realistic and true to the original building as I could, of which I feel I did well. I would have liked to develop this further by making the entire piece more 3D, Adding all of the pillars and true details in to truly get the feel of a Cathedral.
