Week 4 TI session

Week 4 TI session For this TI session, we were taken with learning how to create this "wow" image with adobe illustrator. As someone who normally really likes digital work, I really struggled with this piece. I am unfamiliar with the software and didn't feel confident in any of the steps being made. However, I am proud of how I pulled through and managed to make the image somewhat. I would love to learn how to use adobe illustrator better so tasks like this are easier for me, and I could fix problems alike the lack of spikes on the background. With all this, I am proud of how I pushed through and tried to learn from the session.

Week 4 Type Part 2 For the second part of this lecture, we were asked to draw letter sculptures from life. Being given multiple different materials and a variety of different sculptures to choose from, this task was really fun! I enjoyed having the freedom to test different techniques and materials to see what was working the best for me. My personal favourites are the '1' in the top right corner of one page, and the '&' on the other page. I think the '1' shows off the 3D aspect really well, and the shadows are really nice. The '&' is very detailed and was made from chalk, which I'm impressed with myself for. I don't normally use chalk so am not very confident with using it, but I feel it went really well and I learnt a lot about the material itself whilst drawing such a detailed piece. I would love to redraw that in paint, but I'm really happy with how it turned out overall.  I would have liked to have finished the full page of the c...

Week 4 Type Part 1 For this week, we started off with being given a letter at random and being asked to fill a page with different font ideas. I was given the letter "V", and really enjoyed trying to fill the entire page with a variety of different ideas. I really liked how the styles changed the further down I got, as I started to lose ideas and had to be more open and abstract. After this, we were asked to choose a word beginning with out letter, of which I chose "Violence". I chose this word as it has powerful meaning and imagery, which I chose to play with when creating an image. I decided to create a line drawing that was black and white, with a splash of red to make the imagery pop and the word within the image pop. I really like how this turned out, although I'm not happy with the colouring in as my pen ran out half way through. I would definitely develop this further by digitally designing it, or using paints to make the image pop more.  After this task,...

Week 3 3D Scanning One TI session we got to try was 3D scanning, I didn't get to take many photos but I really enjoyed learning how 3D scanning works and how it could be very useful to my work in the future, particularly digitally. Although I'm not sure how I personally use this, other than potentially prop design or environment design, I found it a really interesting session.  We scanned both objects and faces, as seen on the left. The face scanned on the side is a mixture of two other girls in my class, both scanned separately then edited to mix together. Although terrifying, it was really interesting to see the opportunity to scan people as well as objects.

Week 3 Product For this task, we were asked to create a product for a shop in our chosen place/country. For Monaco, I decided to go completely out of the box and create a product that's fantasy based. For this, I got the inspiration from the humorous theory that the rich and famous get their respective things by selling their soul to the devil. With this in mind, I knew I liked the idea of creating a potion that could achieve this, with the side effects of losing your soul.  With this, I created a witch apothecary/ pharmacy theme. Looking into names and logos, I decided to name the shop "Magyc", a fun play around with the original name. I then considered what was thought about when thinking of a witch that could be used as a logo, one of the main things being a cat. I wanted a stylised feel to both the logo and name, so I chose a fancier sleek feel, to match the feel of Monaco itself. After deciding on the style, I decided to look into the product design itself. I found 4...

Week 3 Maps For this weeks activity, we were asked to create a map for our chosen place. We could create it in any way, a very open brief to explore. As someone who is inexperienced and otherwise unbothered with making maps, this task started off with difficulty. I didn't have any interesting ideas, and so started off with the basics of a normal map of Monaco. I looked particularly into tourist maps, as I know the main landmarks and streets would be on those maps, and they were more likely to be in English than in French! While drawing this out and really observing maps of Monaco did help, I knew I wanted to do something different and fun rather than basic and boring, so I went back to my research to gather some ideas. Looking through my research from before, I decided to research more into the environment (landmarks etc), culture and society of Monaco. From this, I gained a few fun ideas based on the ideas of Monaco being a 'Playground for the rich and famous". I had star...
