TI session - Laser cutter

Image
Laser Cutter These TI sessions were our introduction to the laser cutter, and what we can do with it. I decided to join both of my modules for this session, by designing and creating a pop up card based off of my chosen book, 'The call of the wild' by Jack London. I did this as I wanted to see how detailed I could be with my designs, as if I were to use the laser cutter in the future I know the designs would be very detailed. With this in mind, I designed my two pieces with a detailed tree environment, and two smooth, bold canine characters as the main focus.  The laser cutter thoroughly impressed me by cutting my design almost perfectly, even the smallest spaces between the trees, so I'm really happy with the outcome. I will definitely be using this tech in the future for my work, specifically for my other module when creating products. I would develop my work further by creating more layers, and by creating a more detailed design as a whole.

Week 2 - Clay Characters

Week 2 Clay Character After creating the paper towns in the last lecture, we were asked to look at our paper town and create a character based off of one of the cities/places. At first I did consider my own city, Monaco, as I have the knowledge behind the ideas. However, after considering this and sketching one character idea, I decided against it. I know I lack the patience and skill to create the detailed character I had come up with in clay, and I wanted to actually try and enjoy and learn from this process. So, I decided to look towards New York instead, and more specifically the Pigeons of New York.  After a few sketches, I gave the clay a go. We used quick air dry clay specifically, so that along with little knowledge on how to properly use clay, I had a rough time. Although after struggling with trying to make it look perfect and sculpted, I decided to waste that idea and just have some fun with it. With that in mind, I'm pretty happy with the outcome. Although not nearly pe...

Week 2 - Paper towns

Week 2 Paper Towns In this task, we were asked to pick two slips of paper from a hat at random, both holding names of places. I got 'Monaco' and 'Jerusalem'. We were then asked to do some research into both places, to find out about their culture, society, religion, landmarks, anything potentially important about the areas, as this information would help inform us when creating our paper town.                                       We were then asked to create a building based off of one of our places, it being possibly made up of realistic. I had a look through my research and decided on created the St Nicholas Cathedral in Monaco, A beautiful Roman Catholic cathedral made in 1875. It is specifically known for having many royals buried there, and for its beautiful architecture. I decided on this building because of its stand out design, and its sleek feel. I also wanted to truly challenge myse...

Week 1

Week 1 Still life, Still here For our first task, we were tasked to choose a still object scene and draw it traditionally, and as detailed as possible. I found this task rather difficult, as trying to give detail to the potted flower/bush was a proven to be tricky problem I had to surpass quickly, due to the 30 minute timer. I decided to keep it sketchy, but try and keep the proportions correct to keep a sense of realism and similarity to the scene (photo). For the second task, we were asked to draw the scene in our own style, of which I thoroughly enjoyed. I chose to do this scene with fine liners and a black brush pen, as they are materials I'm comfortable using, and practised in. I chose to do this scene in a sketchy style as well, as I was using pen and have found sketchy styles alot of fun to play with at the moment. I would love to have a bit more time next time to really push the details, or add some colour to make parts pop. For our final task, we were asked to make a colla...

Week 1

Week 1 Observation homework For this task, I chose to draw pedestrians interacting /moving along regularly, off of a video taken. The video is of someone filming their POV walking through London. I found this task fun to do, as I had to draw quickly and could focus more on the movement and anatomy of the people. rather than features in particular. Next time I would love to do this out in public, with colours and different materials that would really push me out of my comfort zone. With this in mind, for the second part of this task we were tasked with drawing 3 buildings preferably from life. I chose to do two of these buildings from life, one being the castle from Alton Towers (top) , the other being from outside my bedroom window (Bottom right). The other is from a photo reference as I found the image beautiful and wanted to recreate it. Overall, I'm really happy with how these buildings came out. I think they are all detailed and have perspective and depth, whilst also carrying ...

Week 1

Week 1 Observation - People For our first few tasks, we were asked to draw our peers using continuous line and blind contour techniques, in small amounts of time. These tasks were a really fun warm up to do, and I feel as I warmed up my drawings got better, as shown from Imogen to Michael in my continuous line page. After these tasks, we were asked to draw ourselves from observation, and drawing ourselves without physically drawing ourselves. Due to a lack of mirror to draw myself, I chose a photo I took of myself and drew myself using graphite pencils. I chose to keep it sketchy and loose, to enjoy trying to get the perspective and anatomy right of myself rather then focusing on minor details. I did the same with the other piece, enjoying drawing my dog and adding fun bits rather than focusing on little details and detail. Overall, I really enjoyed these tasks, although I wish I had done them on separate pieces of paper as to make them bigger and add more to them.
